Fossickers Way

The Fossickers Way Touring Route is interspersed with quaint villages and towns, heritage buildings, natural wonders, fresh locally grown food, comfortable accommodation and as the name suggests plenty of opportunity for you to find some magnificent gems and minerals.

The route begins at Nundle, 60km south-east of Tamworth and travels through Tamworth, Manilla, Barraba, Bingara, Warialda, Inverell and Glen Innes before reaching its culmination at the village of Emmaville.

Each of the towns and villages are attractions and destinations in their own right. Visitors enjoy the wide open spaces, magnificent waterways, diverse attractions, amazing boutique shopping and most importantly the friendly country hospitality the area is famous for.

The landscape provides a beautiful backdrop to your journey as you make your way through sweeping plains and rolling hills. The scenery alone makes the Fossickers Way a great alternative to the busy New England Highway.

If you enjoy the great outdoors, you will not be disappointed. The area is abundant with nature reserves and National Parks, along with some of the most magnificent waterways you will find in this vast country. The views are as spectacular and as big as the sky overhead.

The area is a fisherman’s paradise. A wide variety of fish are waiting to be caught, or you can just lay back and enjoy the ambience. The dams are excellent locations for water sports and bushwalking. If you love camping, the many areas available will more than satisfy, whether you want to be around other families, or a secluded spot on your own. With the increase in people travelling with their pets, a number of locations are pet friendly. Check with the local Visitor Information Centre for details.

Each of the communities along the route are steeped in history. Delve into the past at the museums and galleries. You will find numerous heritage walks to do, together with a multitude of attractions to cater for your interest in the history of the region.
